Mission
Friends of Alaska
CASA is dedicated to the support of Court Appointed Special
Advocate volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in state custody.
Friends of Alaska CASA (FAC) was formed in 1991 to provide support
and recognition to CASA volunteers and services to the abused and
neglected children CASA volunteers represent.
Visit the Friends of
Alaska CASA website.
How FAC Supports Alaska CASA
FAC
raises money by means of corporate, individual, and service
organization donations, grants, an annual quilt auction and other special
events, and sales of CASA
cards and jewelry. The money raised helps FAC:
-
Progress toward our goal of providing a CASA volunteer
for every child who needs one.
-
Raise awareness of the plight of abused and neglected
children in our community.
-
Recruit new volunteers and retain current ones.
-
Provide ongoing training opportunities for CASA
volunteers.
-
Recognize and honor CASA volunteers for their commitment
to children.
- Fund
activities for volunteers and children to spend time
together.
- Meet
children’s needs and provide opportunities that foster
parents cannot, such as music lessons, camp, and
athletic activities.

Volunteers: Request Funding to Support Your Work
Camperships and Mini Grants
Each year Friends of Alaska CASA sets aside funds to assist with
the costs of sending a child to camp. To apply for
campership funds,
click
here to go to the FAC website where you can download
instructions and the application. Active CASA volunteers wishing to seek funds
to meet the needs of their CASA child should complete a
mini grant application which can be downloaded from the
FAC
website.
Youth Scholarship
After 16 years as the CASA state director, Brenda Dickison moved from
Alaska in Fall 2006. To honor her, the FAC board established the Dickison Educational Travel Scholarship. The scholarship is
available to Alaska public high school students in state custody.
For more information,
visit the FAC website.
Continuing Education for CASA
Volunteers
CASA volunteers are required
to complete 12 hours of continuing education annually. Training
sponsored by a local CASA program or Alaska CASA is available free
to active volunteers. There is also often excellent training on
topics important to child welfare available in the community.
Active CASA volunteers wishing to request financial assistance to
attend community-based training should download a
scholarship
application.
