Continuing Education

National CASA Association and Alaska CASA standards require each CASA volunteer to complete 12 hours of continuing education annually. In-service training may be obtained by attending CASA-sponsored training opportunities and/or other relevant training offered in the community. Volunteers should submit documentation for community-based training attended, books read, videos/DVDs viewed, and online courses completed for credit toward their continuing education requirement. Click here to download specific instructions and forms. If you have questions about what will count for continuing education credit contact your local CASA program coordinator.

CASA volunteers needing financial assistance to attend a relevant training opportunity should download a Friends of Alaska CASA Scholarship Application.

National CASA offers several options for continuing education. Ask your local CASA program coordinator about getting credit for listening to a relevant podcast or completing one of the e-learning series. Currently there are e-learning series on Education and Youth in Out-of-Home Care and on Supporting Youth Transitions Into Adulthood.

THE TRUE STORY OF MARY ELLEN

Ever wonder what happened to Mary Ellen, the little girl you learned about in CASA core training whose plight in 1874 called widespread attention to abused children? Mary Ellen's case is widely believed to have been the catalyst for the development of a more formalized child protection system and the child advocacy movement.
