Mission
CASAs
for Children is dedicated to the support of Court Appointed Special
Advocate volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in state custody.
CASAs for Children (CFC) was formed in 1991 to provide support and recognition to CASA volunteers and services to the abused and neglected children CASA volunteers represent. CASAs for Children has a volunteer Board of Directors
that meets monthly and administers a modest annual budget.

CFC is Recruiting for New Board Members
CASAs for Children (CFC) is looking for energetic
and committed people to serve on our Board of Directors. This is an
exciting time in our history and we are looking for motivated people
to help us achieve our goal of providing a CASA volunteer for every
child who needs one.
We welcome people from all regions and walks of life. We value diversity and are
looking for members with differing points of view. We are especially
interested in male members, younger members, and Alaska Native
members. However, anyone who can agree to the
board
requirements is encouraged to
apply.
If you have questions or would like a CFC Board
member application, please contact

How CFC Supports Alaska CASA
CFC raises money by means of corporate, individual, and service
organization donations, an annual quilt auction, and sales of CASA
merchandise. The money raised helps send children to summer camp,
and goes toward monthly recreational activities, notebooks, and
tickets to local activities for special outings with the children
and their CASA volunteers, as well as special needs that may arise
throughout the year.
CFC also provides support for CASA volunteer training and recognition. Topics for volunteer training sessions can range from fetal alcohol syndrome to investigations, negotiations, domestic violence and its impact on children, understanding psychological evaluations, families and addiction, child sexual abuse,
safety issues during home visits, and teen substance abuse--all issues that CASA volunteers deal with on a daily basis when advocating for abused and neglected children.
Request Funding
Camperships and Mini Grants
Each year CASAs for Children sets aside funds to assist with
the costs of sending a child to camp. To apply for
campership funds, download
instructions and the
application form. Active CASA volunteers wishing to seek funds
to meet the needs of their CASA child should complete a
mini grant application.
Youth Scholarship
After 16 years as the CASA state director, Brenda Dickison moved from
Alaska in Fall 2006. To honor her, the CFC board established the Dickison Educational Travel Scholarship. The scholarship is
available to Alaska public high school students in state custody.
For more information, download the
application instructions.
Continuing Education for CASA
Volunteers
CASA volunteers are required
to complete 12 hours of continuing education annually. Training
sponsored by a local CASA program or Alaska CASA is available free
to active volunteers. There is also often excellent training on
topics important to child welfare available in the community.
Active CASA volunteers wishing to request financial assistance to
attend community-based training should download a
scholarship
application.
How to contribute:
Please consider a
tax-deductible donation to help fund these activities. Your financial support is needed and much appreciated. All money received stays in Alaska for the benefit of Alaskans.
